The RMHUC's Quasquicentennial Anniversary was in 2011.

Are you interested in 19th century Colorado, its Harvard alums, and how they developed the association that is now the RMHUC? We have both information and opportunities for you.

A sequence of chance discoveries in Summer 2011 has led to the realization that the original Rocky Mountain Harvard Club was established on February 11, 1886.  We have both the image (PDF) and the transcript of an extensive article that appeared in the Denver Tribune-Republican newspaper the following day as well as an article in the Harvard Crimson the following week.  On February 14, the Rocky Mountain News reported:  "Thursday evening the Harard club gave their first banquet at the Albany.  The menu included a long array of delicacies, and the guests lingered long around the tastefully-spread board.  Toasts were drunk and speeches made.  A great many witty remarks were uttered, and the banquet was in all senses thoroughly enjoyable."

Thus, the 125th anniversary of our founding went unmarked in February 2011.  We held a 126th birthday celebration on February 11, 2012.

Here's how you can help:

  • Are you related to any of the people mentioned in the article?
  • Do you have materials related to Denver or its inhabitants between 1885 and 1900?
  • Would you like to join in tracking down (via Internet or otherwise) more information around the early members of the Club
If so, please drop us a line!

As we learn more of the Club's early history, we will publish the results on this site.  If you would like to participate in this endeavor, we'd love to have your help.
