Harvardians Invited to Minds Matter Denver Informational Breakfast

The "Dreams into Action" breakfast is at 7:30 on Wednesday, February 17 at the Denver Athletic Club.  There is no charge, but registration is required.

As part of the RMHUC partnership with Minds Matter of Denver, members of the Harvard community are invited to attend the MMD's Dreams into Action Breakfast on Wednesday, February 17 at the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glenarm Place in downtown Denver.  Registration starts at 7:00 AM, and the program is from 7:30 to 8:30.

Several of us are already contributing in various ways with this very worthwhile organization.  MMD students are sophomores, juniors, and seniors at East, North, South, and West High Schools or the Denver Center for International Studies (all part of the Denver Public Schools).  They want to attend college and become the next generation of leaders in many sections of American society.  Many have already completed several steps toward this goal, including taking AP classes and holding leadership positions in clubs or student government.  All MMD students attend various summer programs at many in-state and out-of-state universities each year, including the Harvard Summer School’s Secondary School Program.

In Minds Matter's eleven years of operation in Denver, all students who have completed the program have graduated from high school on time, have matriculated into a four-year college or university, and have received financial aid from one or multiple sources.  These statistics are especially striking considering that they all qualify for free or reduced school lunch, and most have faced additional obstacles already in their young lives.

The Dreams into Action Breakfast is one of three events that MMD produces annually.  It is the largest volunteer recruiting event and is also a chance for fundraising.  If you are interested in learning more about MMD's activities and volunteer opportunities with this worthy organization, please attend.  The event itself is free; donations are not required, but are both much appreciated and tax-deductible.  (Donations made through the RMHUC are earmarked for the support of a student to attend the Harvard Summer School.)  Because MMD is a 100% volunteer-run organization, almost 90% of funds go directly to programming.

The best part of this event is that it's the only one that all MMD students attend.  You'll have a chance to meet these inspiring kids and learn their stories firsthand.

If you would like to join on the 17th to learn more about MMD and/or its volunteering opportunities, please use this link to register for the event.  In the  "who invited you" box, enter "RMHUC"; this is the basis for table assignment.  If the link doesn't work and you need to copy and paste:
