The RMHUC Summer School Fund was established in 2015.  Its purpose is to help high-achieving, low-income, high-school students attend the Harvard Summer School's Secondary School Program.  Students attending this seven-week, residential program live in the freshman dormitories in Harvard Yard and take two Harvard courses for college credit.  The program also provides many other social, educational, and college preparatory activities.

The Club is in partnership with Minds Matter Denver to facilitate finding the best eligible high-school students in Denver to send to Harvard after their sophomore or junior year.  Minds Matter students must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and be eligible for the Federal free/reduced lunch program.  In addition to the summer programs they receive intense, college-preparatory mentoring (2 1/2 hours a week with two dedicated mentors per student) during the last three years of high school.

In 2015, the cost to attend the Harvard program was $11,120.  Harvard offers need-based financial aid up to the $5,840 cost of tuition, but room, board, airfare, and pocket money are the responsibility of the student.  This leaves about a $6,000 gap.  Minds Matter has a budget of approximately $1000 per student for whatever summer program they attend.  A ten-day, in-state program may cost less than that; an extensive program such as Harvard's still leaves a $5000 gap.  This is where the RMHUC and Colorado/Wyoming alumni come in.  Your donation to this fund goes 100% to defray the cost of a student's attendance.
