Host a Harvard College Student in Your Organization Over Winter Break!
Be a part of the new January Winternship Program, coordinated by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Career Services, and the Harvard Alumni Association.
A Winternship is essentially an externship, an unpaid
job-shadowing experience in your workplace, lasting anywhere from 1 to
18 days during the January winter break (January 2-25, 2015).
Winternships allow students to observe and ask questions, provide
participants with hands-on experience, educate students about your
organization or industry, and build relationships. An important part of a
January Winternship is your willingness to share your career pathway
with current Harvard students. View a sample of previous January
experiences here.
Create your January Winternship
Here are examples of activities you may want to include:
- Shadowing you on a typical weekday
- Attending workplace meetings
- Conducting informational interviews with colleagues
- Undertaking a voluntary small project or relevant research assignment
- Serving alongside you in volunteer work
- Discussing industry trends and your organization's mission
- Participating in an educational tour conducted by your office
Propose a January Winternship
Submit your proposal to host a Winternship experience by completing this online form.
Proposals will be reviewed to gauge student interest and potential
learning outcomes, and we will notify you by the end of October if your
proposal is selected to be in the program. Note that students will be
responsible for their own travel and housing. The Office of Career
Services has limited funding to cover the travel costs for students with
financial need. We thank you for your interest in helping Harvard
students explore your world of work.
Students will begin searching for Winternship options throughout November; submit your proposal today!
