Meet Harvard Prof. Lewis Lockwood, renowned Beethoven scholar
Prof. Lockwood will talk about Beethoven's life and music on April 19.
A few tickets to the sold-out Friends of Chamber Music's Beethoven Quartet Cycle in April and May are also available to RMHUC folk.
Friends of Chamber Music (FCM) in Denver has engaged the Pacifica String Quartet for a cycle of all of Beethoven's string quartets in six programs – three in the spring of 2012 and three in the fall.
In conjunction with the spring programs, the FCM and the RMHUC have arranged for Lewis Lockwood, Fanny Peabody Research Professor of Music Emeritus, to talk about Beethoven's life and works based on his book, Beethoven: The Music and the Life, on Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 to 7:30. Reservation deadline for this reception is April 15.
This event will be held at the University Club, 1673 Sherman Street. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar. Prof. Lockwood's talk will be illustrated with musical examples performed by Colorado Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Yumi Hwang Williams and other musicians from the CSO. Additionally, FCM has made available to Harvard alums a limited number of tickets to the April 29, May 2, and May 6 performances at $35 per ticket for individual concerts or $90 for all three. The concerts are held at the Gates Concert Hall in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver (E. Iliff Ave. and S. University Blvd.). These will be on sale until April 13 or until the supply runs out. Concert tickets will be held at "will call", but if you purchase the three-concert series, you will receive tickets for all three concertsat the April 29 concert. All seating for FCM events is unreserved.
