Create Education Talk Series with Harvard & Yale Alums

Working Group: Education in Colorado: March 7

The Rocky Mountain Harvard University Club & the Colorado Yale Association are exploring a prospective speaker series on Education and Colorado.  To that end, you are invited to a working group meeting of educators and education-related professionals, constituents, and researchers from our alumni.

As the Obama Administration begins its next 4 years, and Colorado continues to grapple with budget cuts and policies that impact our communities, our joined clubs will like to invite you to join an informed, critical dialogue with fellow alums.

Colorado, and particularly metro Denver, has seen unprecedented population growth over the last five years.  Despite the influx of highly educated workforce entering the region, high school graduation rates for Denver district schools remain at or below 60%, with surrounding wealthier districts, over 80%.  And that's not including the drop out rates, whose numbers are skewed due to national migration in-and-out of state.

When you disaggregate data, you will find that Colorado education system disproportionately fails blacks and Latinos out of school; this is reflected in the work force, recently reported in Losing Ground by investigative Pulitzer Prize winning journalists.

Harvard and Yale Clubs would like to provide a space for our alumni and friends to a lively and invigorating discussion on Education & Colorado.  Why such a vague title, you ask.  Well, join us and you'll be able to change that
