vacrouxHarvard Faculty Speaker: Marc Shell -- POSTPONED

Professor Shell visits the RMHUC for a special faculty talk on Multi- and Bi-Lingualism on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

On March 6, the University put in place a ban for all university-related, non-essential travel.  This will last until at least April 30.  As a result, Professor Shell will not be able to come to Denver for this talk.  When rescheduled, a new article will be posted with particulars.

Professor of English and American Literature and Language Marc Shell will join the Club for dinner and a talk entitled "Language War, Translation, and Politics:  Why Comparative Literature Matters".

Prof. Shell is Harvard’s Irving Babbitt Professor of Comparative Literature and a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellow.  A native of Montréal, he received a B.A. from Stanford and a Ph.D. from Yale, with stops at McGill University and Trinity College Cambridge along the way.  His celebrated interdisciplinary scholarship crosses literature, economics and aesthetics, nationhood and language difference, kinship studies, non-English languages and literatures of the United States, philosophy, anthropology, religion, politics, literary theory, and psychoanalysis.  He has also studied and taught linguistic consequences of disabilities and is the author of Polio and its Aftermath and Stutter, both published by the Harvard University Press.

Do join us at the University Club (East 17th Avenue and Sherman Street) on Thursday, March 26, to hear Professor Shell's talk.

Your ticket price includes a three-course, served dinner, Professor Shell's talk, and the discussion period following.  Entree choices are: (1) Altantic Salmon with lemon-herb caper sauce or (2) Quinoa and roasted vegetables (vegetarian and gluten-free).  Both are served with the University Club's signature salad, au gratin potatoes, zucchini and squash, and chocolate buttercream chocolate cake with whipped cream. A cash bar will be available before and during dinner.
