Speaker Series Finale December 19th: Curt Freed AB '65, MD '69

The speaker series moves to the Clyfford Still Museum! Join Curt Freed, MD, nephew of the renowned artist, for a Saturday morning gallery tour. We will walk to lunch at a nearby restaurant afterwards.

This event is now sold out, but you may get on the waitlist using the sidebar.

The Harvard Rocky Mountain Harvard University Club invites you to join us for a very special fifth and final installment of the 2015 Speaker Series. Curt Freed AB '65, MD '69 will guide a small tour of alumni and guests at 11 AM on Saturday, December 19th.  The tour will take about an hour, and we will reconvene near the entrance at 12:30 to walk across the street to Pint's Pub, which claims to be home to the largest selection of single-malt Scotch whiskys outside of Scotland. Lunch is optional and self-pay.

Curt enjoys guiding tours of the museum dedicated to his uncle: "I first saw his paintings when I was 9 years old on a family visit to their apartment and studio in Greenwich Village.  Clyfford and Patricia would stay with us at our family house in Ohio during their cross-country trips in his silver Jaguar."

Curt was also instrumental is landing the museum in Denver.  The Still museum is one of a handful of American museums dedicated to a single artist. In Curt's words, "In July 1999 when my aunt was turning 80 and having medical problems, I persuaded her to let me contact Denver about building the museum here.  She sent me a letter which is on display in the museum giving me permission.  I made a cold call to the Denver Art Museum asking if Denver would like the Clyfford Still Collection.  That led immediately to a lunch with Denver Art Museum Director Lewis Sharp and Modern Collection curator Diane Vanderlip.  It took 12 years and two mayors, plus a lot of support from the Denver philanthropic community, and we were able to open the Still Museum in November 2011."

The tour is free, courtesy of Curt; museum entrance of $8 is the only cost. Museum members are free, as always. The museum opens at 10, and you are welcome to tour the museum on your own until the tour starts at 11.  Two-hour meter parking should be plentiful on the local streets.  There are also pay lots, most of them $5-10, across the street.

To register for more than one person, use the area to the right, navigate back to the home page -- http://rmhuc.org --  and then return to this page to get a fresh panel.
